The Boys & Girls Club of East Aurora nurtures young people's self-esteem by instilling in them a sense of belonging, usefulness, influence and competence. We do this daily by providing young people with one-on-one relationships with caring adult professionals and well-rounded programming that is fun and age-appropriate. The Club offers over 65 programs annually from five core program areas: Character and Leadership Development; Education and Career Development; Health and Life Skills; The Arts; and Sports, Fitness and Recreation.
Boys & Girls Clubs of America supports our Club by offering a framework for youth development and proven, nationally recognized programs that provide the knowledge, skills and attributes young people need to pursue their dreams and succeed in life.
Five Key Elements for Positive Youth Development The Club implements these five key elements through our programming to impact our kids; and have learned that the level of impact the Club has on young people depends on how often and how long members participate.
A Safe, Positive Environment: Club staff, facilities, program offerings and age-appropriate settings create stability, consistency and a sense of physical and emotional safety for our members. The Club provides structure and clearly defines acceptable behaviors.
Fun!!: Above all, the Club is a place kids come to have FUN! Staff members make the Club feel like home, fostering a family atmosphere and creating a sense of ownership for members.
Supportive Relationships: Staff members actively cultivate meaningful relationships with members to ensure every member feels connected to one or more adults and peers. Staff members demonstrate warmth, caring, appreciation, acceptance and proper guidance in their interactions with members.
Opportunities and Expectations: Club youth acquire physical, social, technological, artistic and life skills. Clubs encourage members to develop moral character and behave ethically. Staff members establish and reinforce high expectations and help young people do well in school and pursue a post-secondary education.
Recognition: Clubs recognize and affirm young people's self-worth and accomplishments. Staff encourage youth and provide positive reinforcement. The Club showcases young people's achievements.
What our Club Kids, Club Alumni and their parents have to say about BGCEA:
I wanted to mention how welcome I feel as a parent in The Club. Someone from the staff always says hello and engages me in a conversation, the kids say hi and I always see my kids engaged in something worthwhile and age appropriate. I appreciate what you do for kids.
- John Roden, Club Parent (01/2014)
I still managed to find some trouble to get in to, but as I matured I started looking up to the individuals who took the time to look out for me out of no obligation but that they wanted to make a positive impact on the youth they encountered. Today, I find myself doing the same.
